English Setters, Cardigan Corgi's, Labrador Retrievers

Picture
Finlayson's English Setters are bred for health, temperament and structure. All adults have been OFA hips and elbows and have had BAER hearing tests as puppies. I do not believe in breeding dogs that have allergies, structure issues or undesirable temperaments. This will help insure the best possible puppy for every family.

The sale of a puppy will include a health certificate, fecal exam, first distemper and kennel cough vaccine and a Puppy Class at Finlayson's. Puppies will also have started crate training for easier transition to the new home.

Puppies will be available to both pet/field and show and service dog homes, but must live inside the house of the new owner. These puppies are born and raised in a loving home not a barn or kennel. Mary Finlayson is an experienced trainer who takes pride in working with the puppies before they leave. They are constantly exposed to different people, dogs and children.

Call to see when the next litter is expected.

Please feel free to see videos on my Facebook Finlayson’s Pet Care.  You will see the dogs playing in the field with other dogs, showing and just being silly. I take great pride in my breeding Program. I do many health clearances on my breeding dogs before breeding. I offer a health guarantee and breed only stable temperaments that make the best companions for anyone.  I am a multiple award-winning breeder in English Setters. I am the breeder and co-owner of the number 3 ranking English setter in the US and Canada 2019. I have been awarded breeder of the year by the English Setter Club of New England and many other awards for my efforts. I breed stable, loving and hard-working temperament for Service Dogs in my service dog program (Granite State Service Dogs). Feel Free to join our Granite State Service Dog FB page to view the setters at work.

When can we talk?- I would love to speak with any party that is interested. I do have many inquiries. That being said, I would like to speak only to those who are ready and have put thought into having a puppy.  Often, we as breeders spend countless hours with potential homes only for them to back out. This is often due to circumstances that should have been considered before contacting a breeder.
Please make sure all the following are addressed and considered before applying for a puppy.
  1. Does every member of your household WANT a puppy?
  2. Do you have arrangements for your puppy when you go to work? I understand with COVID many people are now working from home. This may seem great when you have a puppy. Just remember a puppy will demand attention making it hard for you to work. It's like having a 2 year old baby.
  3. Finances – Is the purchase price in your budget for a pet($3300), are you financially able to handle future vet bills such as spay/ neuter, vaccines, and emergency fees?
  4. You must agree to spay and neuter if your dog is a pet
  5. Available young adult, adult, started service dogs and show dogs-price will vary.

Meeting and video chats –Visits and videos chats can be scheduled to meet the adults. This is done only after a preapproval form is sent in. The reason I do it this way is because many people are not serious and just want to visit. I could spend hours each day just with visitors who may never qualify for a puppy.. When you fill out the preapproval you are not committed to buying a puppy. This is a way from me to assure you would be approved before meet and greets are scheduled . Often in the warmer months I will have Meet The Setters days. These are for anyone to come and visit the dogs without pre-approvals. Come play and enjoy the food, dog activities ask questions and snuggle some setters. If you are approved and would like a puppy from a future or present litter, the non-refundable deposit is $500. Please remember the deposit fee is non-refundable because it's holding your place for a puppy and I only take a certain amount of deposits.
.
Who chooses the puppy- You will often have a choice out of a few pups. No one gets to choose from the whole litter. I will be choosing a dog for future breeding; the stud dog owner will often choose a pup. Next certain dogs will be chosen to be future service dogs with Granite State Service Dogs. All puppies that are left will go to pet homes in order of deposits.

Prepare yourself financially for dog ownership. The expense does not end at the purchase price.
Be proactive and call your local vet, groomer and training facility and ask about their fees for the following services.

Grooming – Labradors and Corgi's require brushing every few weeks. Both breeds do shed hair. English setter shed much less coat but do need professional trimming and brushing. English setters will need to be brushed about once a week for a short period of time. They should be groomed by a professional every 6-8 weeks for longer coats and 3 months for shorter coats. As a pet, the owner can choose to clip them short all over to lengthen time between grooms and have easier maintenance. Please check with a local groomer on grooming fees.

Medical Expenses - Your puppy  will need to visit your vet at 12 and 16 weeks of age for distemper and rabies boosters. Heartworm prevention and Lyme shots will also be given at some point during these visits. After this series dogs will usually see the local vet once a year for booster vaccines, heartworm /Lyme testing and fecal screens. Puppies will come with their first Distemper/Parvo and Kennel cough vaccines. They will be screened for parasites and have a BAER test for hearing. Your puppy, unless stated otherwise in your contract, will need to be spayed or neutered at 10 to 12 months of age. Keep in mind that emergency vet visits can be costly, and most vets will not accept payment plans. Funds should be set aside for emergencies for your pet. Insurance can also be purchased for your pet which is recommended at an early age for full coverage.
Training - You will be required to take at least one four-week obedience class with your puppy before the age of 6 months.

Deposit - A deposit of $500 will be required to hold a puppy/dog once your application is approved and a bitch has been or is soon to be bred. This deposit is nonrefundable unless you cannot be provided with a puppy/dog by Finlayson’s. The remaining monies will be due prior to shipment or pick up. If you are purchasing after the puppies have reached 8 weeks the entire amount will be due to reserve your puppy. Owners must be prepared to pick up and pay the balance owed on the date provided by Finlayson’s. If the puppy/dog is held beyond the pickup date the new owner must prepay a boarding charge along with final payment in order to hold the puppy.

Cost - English Setters - Pet puppy setters are $3300.  Show dogs are $3500-$5000.  Pre adults and adults are $3500 to $8000  depending on training and age. Dogs 6 years and older are $500
Labradors and Corgis - $3300 for pets. Pre adults and adults over 6 months are $3700 to $8000 depending on training and age. Dogs over 6 years are $500.
All pet puppies are required to be spayed and neutered by 1 year of age.

How will you get your puppy? Please think about how you will get your puppy. You maybe close enough to drive, if you are not you may have to fly to get your puppy or drive.  The next litter will be ready to go home in mid-February.
