Class Description
Learn all the basics and more! Topics covered include breaking common behavior problems, as well as getting and maintaining attention in regular and distracting environments. The primary focus of this class is for the dog to learn to hold all commands during distractions. Teach your dog to do a sit or down while you toss food or toys on the floor without breaking the command. Teach your dog a finish command. In this command, you will start with the dog in front and, with a movement of your hand, the dog will move to your left side in the heel position. Other exercises include calling your dog to come and sit in front of you, heeling your dog at your side with full eye contact without looking away, walking your dog on a loose lead without pulling or jumping even when dogs or people are close.
Class will be on the same day of the week and time as the starting date. Some weeks may be skipped due to holidays or other events. In these situations class will be extended one or more weeks out to equal the number of sessions in the class. In Level I classes fill quickly. We must have all your paperwork and payment before we reserve a space in class. As classes fill, more dates will be added to this list.
Commands include: Sit-stay, down-stay, heel, let's go, finish/place/around, come, off (no jumping)
*For dogs 5 months and over. If your dog is not friendly with other dogs or people, please contact Mary before registering for a class - some private sessions may be required.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND CLASS(s):
You have some options if you miss class, they are listed below
1. You can review and practice the homework and watch the videos on the Facebook Group. If you have questions you can discuss at the following weeks class.
2. You can drop in to a future class we are holding IF IT DOES NOT BECOME FULL, for a $25 drop in fee per drop in.
3. If you are missing class due to your dog being ill or having a surgery where they need to miss a week, You should come without your dog so you can learn the lessons from that week and then practice with your dog when feeling better.
Class Size: 8 students or less
Note: Please be aware of your schedule and the dates that class is held. We do skip dates if there is a holiday, bad weather or another event. Please allow a few extra weeks in your schedule to finish your class. Meaning a 5 week class may take 7 weeks to complete. In the event of bad weather some classes will be held on a Zoom. Please be prepared for this.
If your dog needs to skip class because they are sick, spay/neuter or for any other reason, you can attend without the dog to get a lesson, join in zoom if available, or just follow that weeks homework at home. We cannot transfer you to another class or refund your class fee. If you have to miss a large amount of your class you may join a future class that does not fill by the start date. The fee will be $25 for each day that you drop into that class.
