Wag It Novice
Upcoming 5-week class
Wag it - Hodgepodge - Saturday June 9th at 8:30 a.m.
$160 for 5-week class
Novice Hodgepodge Class - Saturday, June 9th at 8:30am
Using positive relationship-based training techniques, dogs will learn to push buttons, cross bridges, roll balls, ride scooters, heel on both sides, search for hidden scents, and much, much more! Wag It Games help to build focus, improve handlers’ training skills, provide work for “busy” dogs, and above all are just plain fun for humans and dogs!
Rapidly rising in popularity, Wag It Games currently encompass seven different fun-filled activities. This novice class will introduce participants to four of those activities, Shadow Skills (sort of like rally), No Need for Speed Obstacles, Ball Skills, and the very popular Sniff It, which is a version of scent play/nosework. After completing this Hodgepodge class, participants may elect to focus on the activities they enjoy most by taking more specialized advanced classes.
(For more detailed descriptions and photos, visit the Wag It website at www.wagitgames.com)
No purchases will be mandatory, but if people want to practice obstacles at home there will be $5- $10 of equipment they may want to invest in.
Bring LOTS of treats in a treat pouch or easily accessible baggy pocket, and adjust your dog’s meals accordingly. Expect your dog to need a nap after class. Wag It is not terribly athletic, but we will be stretching their brains and dogs will be cognitively tired after a session.
Prerequisite: Dogs should be able to walk on a loose leash most of the time, and know “sit” and “down.” An on leash “stay” and “come” is helpful as well. If you’d like to be even more prepared, start to work on heeling on both sides.
Wag It does not permit reactive/aggressive dogs in group classes, but private lessons can be made available and are encouraged, since Wag It is very helpful training for dogs with problem issues.
Class size will be 4-5 dogs
Quarry Quest - Sunday January 28th at 8:30am
Your dog wants you to sign up for! QQ is one of the noseplay divisions of Wag It Games so you know it will be fun!
Dogs will learn to locate a hidden canister filled with delightfully smelling raw sheep fleece. This game helps to build your dog’s confidence and enhances your bond and working relationship. These positive effects carry over into other aspects of your dog’s training because QQ provides a joyful, failure-free outlet for your dog’s predator drive.
As time allows, we will also play with some Wag It Obstacles and learn about other Wag It opportunities. If there is interest, a Quarry Quest competition can be organized where teams can win ribbons and earn titles.
No prerequisites. Dogs do not need to be able to retrieve. Any dog with a normal sense of smell can learn and enjoy this.
Sunday mornings at 8:30 am
Starting January 28 through February 25th. If we cancel due to bad weather, class may extend into early March, so keep March 4 and 11th open just in case.
Registration includes a package of fleece. Participants will need to provide their own vented canisters. We’ll discuss container options at the first class.
- A lightweight leash at least 6 feet long, A 10-foot piece of parachute cord works well too.
- A glass jar with lid, for storing the fleece
- Lots and lots of small low-motivation training treats, something your dog likes, but not the most absolutely delicious treats that you would reserve for more difficult training
- A slightly hungry dog
